Empowering Baltimore Together

I AM BLAIR DUCRAY

My name is Blair DuCray and I am asking for your vote to represent you as a Delegate for the 40th Legislative District of Maryland.

Like many of you, my story is one of facing hardships and challenges. Through my life experiences, I have learned the necessity to stand up and champion issues such as equitable and strong economic growth for Baltimore, affordable housing, and transit equity. My story is one of community, leadership, honesty, independence, and peace and compassion.

As your Delegate, it will be my responsibility to amplify your voice and champion our vision for Baltimore. I greatly appreciate the opportunity to earn your vote to represent the 40th Legislative District of Maryland. Let’s begin Empowering Baltimore Together!

OUR GOALS
Community

My appreciation for community is both deep and flexible. I believe we find fulfillment in life through our community and relationships with others. This philosophy is a guiding light not only in my candidacy for state delegate and in my many years of activism and advocacy before it, but also in my daily life.

I grew up in many places around our country. Moving around the country with my family gave me insight into a diverse mix of many communities and the folks that live in them. My experiences also taught me about the needs that all people share: jobs, training, and education allowing one to compete for a job, transit to jobs, and a safe home.

Leadership

Too many of those sitting in the House of Delegates work few hours for their districts during the non-session period, going back to their other jobs and leaving little or no time to stay grounded with and in the community.

My vision as your delegate is to be a full-time representative of the people – a delegate always connected and responsive to the needs of our community. My pledge is that I will always be available to our people as much on the streets of Baltimore as in the halls of Annapolis.

Honesty

I pledge to you honesty both personally and in all public matters. The pursuit for and holding of a seat in public office has long been a test of one’s integrity and ability to remain honest with themselves and others. Many in this city and others around the nation have failed their communities spectacularly. Remaining grounded with and in my community, friends, and family is my strategy for shielding myself from the corruption that seeks to overwhelm not just Maryland state delegates, but anyone with the power and influence attached to public offices.

Independence

It is impossible to have a sustainable city without empowering our neighbors to have the independence that comes with being able to reach one’s job by way of public transit. The search for independence for all makes up one reason I support transit equity.

I strongly believe that it was a blow to our city when the Governor canceled the Red Line project. As a state delegate, my goal will be to create a path for the completion of the Red Line to provide thousands of West Baltimore residents access to more of the region's job opportunities, building a path to independence for them.

Sustainable independence for our community also depends on safe, affordable housing in the 40th District. The experience gained from the hardship faced and humbling lack of independence one feels when “home” is an unstable and short-lived word is why I advocate for affordable housing.

Peace and Compassion

I hope to soon look around my community and see peace. Peace brings the opportunity for growth. Peace brings the opportunity for joy. There are large segments of our city that lack peace. I believe that we will not achieve peace until we show compassion until we understand that we need to help others.
